If your favorite dishes come from the oven then the Romertopf roaster will easily become your favorite cookware piece. These utensils are specifically designed for such purposes(read more below). In addition, cookware manufactured by Romertopf is fully made from natural clay produced in the German region of Westfalia.
We can agree that materials like enameled metal or glass can be a safe solution for the oven. However, ceramic cookware makes a real difference when it comes to food taste and juiciness.
As mentioned Romertopf cookware is specifically designed for oven cooking methods, such as baking or roasting.
These utensils have a glazed inner side and non-glazed outer part and lid. However, why does this makes a difference?
During dry heating methods like roasting and baking glazed interior of the Romertopf cookware could keep even a small amount of liquid from soaking in clay on the bottom.
On the other side, a non-glazed cookware lid serves as the perfect conservation of moisture and steam circulation. This keeps roasted dishes tender inside with the forming of the delicious crust on the other parts. With these natural ceramic utensils, your will start to love your favorite oven dishes even more.
Romertopf models are manufactured for great performance in oven and microwave cooking. However, they are not intended to be used on stovetop or grill(With exception of a few specific products)
The presented cookware model belongs to the Modern Romertopf series which is ideal for an attractive serving of food. So If you want to transfer the hot dish directly from an oven to your serving table, and to impress your family with attractive serving, these pieces feel just perfect for that.
It is good to hear in advance that ceramics requires careful handling because it can be fragile. However, with little extra care, these pieces can last you for a long time.
First of all, it is good to say that Romertopf products are specially designed for use in oven/microwave and they are not intended to be used on stovetops or open flames.
Before first use
Because it has a glazed interior Romertopf cookware doesn’t need to be seasoned**. Instead, it would be best to soak your Romertopf cookware overnight and clean it with a nylon brush and water before the first use.
In order to benefit from all the unique properties of ceramics, it will be good to keep it moist. To achive that it is good to soak your Romertopf ceramic cookware in the water before preparing each dish.(for several minutes) This allows ceramic to make the ideal circulation of moisture inside of the utensil during cooking and to keep your dishes juicy.
From my experience, the ideal way to submerse ceramic cookware is to have a new plastic bucket sufficient in size. Using a fulfilled sink can also do the job but it is not always practical to do it this way.
Washing
Even the Romertopf states that you can use little soap for cleaning the cookware, I would recommend avoiding that and using baking soda instead. Romertopf is not fully glazed so the porous part can absorb the soap. If you need a deep cleaning you can use the pasta made from baking soda and vinegar. Apply it with a rigid sponge and you will find good results.
According to the manufacturer, it will be good to boil your Romertopf utensils for 30 min after around 100 uses. This will again open the pores in the clay, which is important for maintaining cookwares moist regulation and conserving of food aroma during cooking
Cooking temperatures
No temperature limitations. However, it is good to avoid sudden temperature changes( e.g. Exposing cookware to the preheated oven, or placing it directly from the oven to a cold surface)
In addition
Storage your utensils in a place with good air circulation and with the lid turned upside down. This will provide good ventilation and dry which is important when it came to porous ceramics.
*After several uses, the cookware will become a little darker in color, which is something that normally happens to non-glazed ceramics(or partially non-glazed in this case)
**seasoning- Cookware seasoning is the process of coating the by using oil and heat in order to prevent food sticking and to protect the cookware
This 3.1 quart is a really good choice when it comes to roasting a whole chicken with different side ingredients such as broccoli, zucchinis, or potatoes.
One other delicious recipe that perfectly fits this glazed ceramic utensil is poached salmon. Thanks to its properties pure ceramics keep all of the juices inside. This will give your salmon a special note of taste and make it juicier.
Apart from preparing meat cuts, Romertopf utensil of this size is a good option for preparing famous Italian dishes such lasagna or baked macaroni. And finally, for the people who love to make their own bread, this casserole will easily become their favorite piece of cookware.
